A young couple has chosen to take the chance and opened ‘Sora’ this year, a consignment store selling Japanese figures, earrings, pet products, and local handicrafts, which has also created a vibrant, diverse, and nontraditional business environment for the Bazaar.
The idea of ‘Sora’ came up from a couple’s trip to Japan. During the trip, they were attracted by a consignment store, and started of the idea for owning a store in Hong Kong. In order to achieve the dream, Mr. Chan quitted his full-time job and started learning to run the business from a scratch. Their shop started from a folded table to a fully equipped store with shelves and racks. They have brought in different kinds of products, and attracted local brands to sell their unique handicrafts at the store, including ‘Anne Handcraft’- specializes in hand-made Japanese fabrics and quilting bags, as well as ‘12legs’ - a cat collection designed by Sagittarius illustrator. As the owner of Sora, Mr. Chan focuses on importing authentic Japanese products. He uses ‘Sora’ as the brand name for a series of Japanese earrings, hoping to start up his own brand.
They said the name ‘Sora’ is in Japanese means the sky, and the logo design is inspired by the Mount Fuji, the sun, and clouds, which fully reflects their dedication and love for Japanese culture. They confessed that they are still exploring the market trend, but they are confident as a consignment store has high flexibility in changing products. They are also utilizing Instagram to promote their products so to develop online and offline marketing strategy, which can help them grow business, as well as to keep bringing in more youthful and diversified atmosphere to the Bazaar.
