“The colour'd clouds are her flowing robe, the flower, her face - this is from ‘Qing Ping Diao’ of the Tang Dynasty poet, Li Bai, and the name of our shop is inspired by it,” Miss Tang, the owner of A Touch of Glam said. At A Touch of Glam, not only you will see a wide range of beauty and skincare products on display, but also a hand-drawn shop logo, a few aesthetic store decorations and a poem by Li Bai hanging on the shelf, bringing a youthful atmosphere to the Bazaar.
With its main shop locating in Mong Kok, A Touch of Glam is founded by Miss Tang’s family for over two years, specializes in selling beauty and skincare products of major brands. They chose to open a new branch at the Bazaar as there is less competition of the same industry, and they aimed to attract young consumers as well as to bring in more diversified products to the market.
The reason for opening physical retail shops during the economic downturn is because online beauty retailing is more competitive and less reliable, which consumers are difficult to identify the authenticity of products through the internet, Miss Tang explained. “All products of the physical shops in Hong Kong have to pass the Trade Descriptions Ordinance and counterfeit products are prohibited, thus enhancing customer confidence. In addition, our products are sourced from reliable suppliers with long-term partnerships which make our prices extremely competitive.”
In fact, dealing with new customers at the Bazaar has brought challenges to Miss Tang. “It takes me more time and effort to sharpen my sales skills and have to learn about new customers’ behaviors.” However, compared to her previous job as an intern, she believes she is more motivated and determined to work for the family business.
